This is David Hendrix and I teach computational biology and bioinformatics classes. One of my classes involves teaching molecular biology students how to program in python, and to do so without any prior experience. My goal was to use inclusive teaching practices to improve student self-efficacy in programming. I feel that I am just beginning to scratch the surface and I learn new approaches every year on how to improve this. I set up means of evaluating student affect, as well as provide feedback to the students about how everyone is doing, and I have made great strides in improving the inclusivity of my teaching environment.
