I am currently an Assistant Professor in the College of Forestry in the Forest Ecosystems and Society Department. I teach mostly undergraduate courses related to recreation science and management as well as parks and protected area management. I have been teaching in some capacity for the past 15 years. I have always been passionate about and dedicated to being a successful and effective teacher. And I completely believe that inclusive and equitable teaching makes for better learning for students overall. Many of the fields that we learn about and discuss in my teaching space (conservation, recreation management, natural resources management) have histories of being exclusive and inequitable. Many of these issues continue to persist today in these fields. I view part of my job as an educator is to ensure students are aware of these inequities and issues to ensure that our field is better moving forward. Additionally, I am dedicated to creating a classroom environment where all students feel welcomed, valued, respected, and are given the opportunity to succeed. The IE@OSU program will help me to continue to develop my teaching skills and will allow me to better lead by example in my College.
